Patrick T. Mottola – Environmental and Redevelopment Law & Land Use

Tom ResizedPatrick Mottola serves as Counsel to the law firm of Sedita, Campisano & Campisano, LLC, and specializes in the practice of environmental law. Mr. Mottola has extensive experience as an environmental professional, providing counsel, creative solutions, and management strategies for all types of environmental issues. With extensive background as an environmental lawyer, environmental risk manager and geologist, Mr. Mottola evaluates environmental issues holistically by integrating legal, technical, and financial perspectives to serve the business objectives of the client. His strong communication, negotiating skills and advocacy allow identification, allocation, and mitigation of environmental risks in order to provide pragmatic solutions so deals can be closed and contested matters resolved.

Mr. Mottola has extensive legal experience serving industrial, commercial and developer clients on a variety of issues related to brownfields redevelopment, site remediation, real estate and corporate transactions, regulatory compliance and permitting, resolution of enforcement and litigated matters. He advocates for clients before New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Mottola manages all phases of compliance with state transfer statutes, including New Jersey’s Industrial Site Recovery Act.

Most recently, Mr. Mottola served as Senior Manager of Environment Risk for GE Capital from 2011 to 2016, where he assessed, quantified, and managed environmental risk in underwriting complex financing transactions for numerous industries. He advised GE Capital as to the impacts of environmental issues to Credit Risk, Reputational Risk, and Direct Liability for domestic and global transactions ranging in size from $10 million to $500 million.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Mottola was a geologist and project manager for a national environmental engineering and consulting firm from 1990 to 2000. He managed project teams of engineers and scientists and prepared reports for all phases of environmental investigation and remediation.

Mr. Mottola has written a number of publications and has been a frequent speaker on environmental law. He is a founding member and served as a three-term Administrator to the Justice Stewart G. Pollock Environmental American Inn of Court. Mr. Mottola is also an adjunct faculty member of Charter Oak State College in Connecticut, where he designed and teaches an online undergraduate course in environmental law.
